Times Tables are a great brain-training exercise for children, but they are also one of the foundations of confident mental maths in life. Children are taught Times Tables in primary school and expected to be confident in all the multiplication tables to 12 by the end of Year 6 (aged 10 to 11). According to a 2011 Ofsted report, however, Times Tables fluency isn't what it should be when children start secondary school. Times Tables knowledge is essential for algebra, as well as science subjects and ICT. We also rely on our Times Tables knowledge in everyday life.
