How much do you know about Porridge , one of the UK’s most loved comedies?
Do you consider yourself an expert on Porridge , the classic and very funny 1970s comedy, starring the late, great Ronnie Barker? Find out how much you know about the lugubrious lag Norman Stanley Fletcher in this Porridge quiz.
Originally broadcast between 1974 and 1978, Porridge written by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, was voted number seven in a 2004 poll of the 100 greatest British sitcoms.
An unusual setting for a comedy, Porridge followed the trials and tribulations of habitual criminal Fletcher and his naïve cellmate Lenny Godber as they cope with prison life in Slade Prison in Cumberland. Fletcher had to battle against hard-nosed warder Mr Mackay as well as King con ‘Genial’ Harry Grout. Other sublime characters included timid warder Mr Barrowclough and fellow prisoners Bunny Warren, Lukewarm, ‘Horrible’ Ives, Blanco Webb and Jim McLaren.
