How marvellous will you be with this Planet Mars quiz?
Planet Mars has long fascinated man, from being named after an ancient God to being the subject of Hollywood movies and pop songs. Films like ‘Mars Attacks’, ‘War of the Worlds’ and ‘Invaders from Mars’ have fuelled the myth that there is life on Mars. And in 1973 David Bowie asked the question ‘Life on Mars?’ perhaps in the hope that it might be better than that on Earth. The facts are that Mars is a terrestrial planet with a thin atmosphere. Its surface is a combination of the impact craters of the Moon and the deserts, volcanoes, valleys and polar ice caps of Earth. In August 2012 the Mars Curiosity Rover landed on Mars to carry out a wide range of scientific tasks. The Rover is equipped with an array of sophisticated instruments capable of analysing samples of soil, rocks and atmosphere on the spot and beaming the results back to Earth.
