Hercule Poirot was one of author Agatha Christie’s most famous and enduring characters. Poirot appeared in no less than 33 novels, more than 50 short stories and one play, published from 1920 to 1975. Strange then that by 1930, Agatha Christie considered Poirot to be "insufferable", and by 1960 she referred to him as a "detestable, bombastic, tiresome, ego-centric little creep". However Christie refused to kill him off, saying that it was her duty to continue to produce what the general public enjoyed.
